On Breaking Free of the Guru Trap

                                                           
(This was written on request, for disillusioned teachers of a worldwide spiritual cult. It could apply to any situation in which we give to anyone the power and authority that overides our own heart knowing.)

So you feel foolish, hurt, betrayed, disillusioned, confused, worthless and unloved. Cut adrift from all that had a deeper meaning and purpose in your life. Your truth and sincerity thrown back in your face. Your ego shattered and a deathly isolation from your spirit, the essence of who you are.
IT SERVES YOU RIGHT!
Yes the whole experience that brought you to this point serves you and your highest purpose. It speaks to you of the greatest truth you could learn. It speaks to you of your Self, your sovereignty, your love, and your uniqueness. It speaks to you of your real power and your point of viewing Truth. It speaks to you of inner knowing as your navigational means to the liberation, the freedom, and the love of who you are.
NOW YOU KNOW.
You know first hand through your experience, that you cannot trade your freedom, your truth knowing, for the luxury of “belonging’ to something or someone you see as superior, exclusive or special. Where truth is concerned there is absolutely no compromise. Where your knowing tells you something is not right, then it is your truth. No one, no other being or organisation of human or other construction, can ever be allowed to take precedence over your “truth knowing”. This is your guru and this will lead you to the truth, to the enlightenment, to the love, and the joy you seek. It is within you, the Love you seek, and it is in that Love that your service to others, and to the world will manifest. It was that love within you that started you on this particular road you have travelled. It was the reason that lead you to became stuck in the first place.
NO RECRIMINATIONS, NO JUDGEMENTS.
You have not done anything wrong. All you have done is make choices that have lead you along a path to greater knowing. There is no such thing a wrong choice.
You were searching for a higher purpose, a means of experiencing more and a deeper sense of yourself. A means of being able to expressed to yourself and your world, the love, peace, and harmony that you knew, deep within, is the true nature of human life.
So the face of a man and/or the aims of an organisation or group, touched your deeper knowing in an often synchronous and maybe magical way. You were drawn to it and you responded. You were touched by your truth to hear the message and experience something of its claims that intrigued and fired your inner yearning.
So you took a course, experienced a method of exercises that gave you a direct experience of your energy, and a more peace filled consciousness. It really worked and gave you a palpable experience of the natural forces within and without you for the love, peace and harmony you sought. You heard words that were wise and were based on truths of the ancients, and they resonated so well with you (because they were within you anyway), that you saw them as belonging to a person who had some special access to the truth that you did not have and that you desired.  BIG MISTAKE  (oops!- opportunity to learn).
NOW YOU KNOW!
We all have access to all the truth we need. Someone else can point the way and remind us but that does not make them higher, greater or more special that you are. What you feel in any given moment is truth for you. To deny one iota of it is to deny who you are. Giving someone else the power to know you better that you know yourself takes away your power and access to your own knowing. You start denying the truth around you when it hits you in the eye. We call it “turning a blind eye”. You start allowing “wrongdoings” because someone else (the guru) must know what he is doing. BAD MOVE.

What have you learned about Yourself
You have learned how far you can sink when you deny the reality that is in front of you, albeit for reasons such as not being judgemental and the belief that you need to see the bigger picture, or the motives behind others actions, in order to make loving choices.
You have learned that you are a sovereign being and never will you again trade your truth for the truth of someone else. You will now follow your own knowing and though that may take you where you cannot predict, your safety, your integrity, your love, your heart knowing, will be your guide your “guru”, your teacher. You will know truth from the feeling it gives you. Your authority will be this truth feeling and you will remind yourself of this every day of your life.
You will learn to trust this knowing and find the courage to feel, think and act on it. You are a Divine Being at One in and One with all Creation and therefore the Universe and your inner knowing will not, and cannot let you down.
It is not about fighting the ego anymore. This is a guilt trip subtly reinforced in the old teachings and beliefs of the guru/disciple sham. Ego is that part of you that worked to help you survive and feel safe. It now is afraid because you are moving into higher energies of yourself. It needs your understanding not your rejection. Teach it not to be afraid. Take it with you and teach it the freedom that comes from your love and your expression of sharing your love.
You are a sovereign Being, when you say so. You need no one’s permission but your own. You are love incarnate and you came here to learn and to give a helping hand to others because you have always known that we are One. You do not need permission to be a teacher, permission to share what works for you, permission to freely express your truth, and your knowing. It is what the human world needs most at this time. It needs to hear you and your heart song, freely expressed and freely given in whatever form, through whatever vehicle or modality that you find works for you.
Do not give way to depression and defeat. Refuse to backtrack into feelings of “poor me”. You can choose not to become  a victim. Let the lessons learned spur you on to a fuller expression of yourself. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and above all bring back your feeling through true gratitude for the experience. “Thankyou for now I know. I know that, why I got into this experience in the first place was to learn so many ways of loosing my sense of direction, of looking beyond myself for truth and ignoring my better judgement. I will now listen, I will now learn to more deeply trust my own guidance and remind myself often.”

What have you learned about others?
Given that everyone we see, with all their apparent weaknesses, are a reflection of us, otherwise we would not have them in our world, then what can you learn about how others have behaved.
Have you realised that the loving peaceful presence you have experienced was actually your own Holy Presence. You have practice exercises that have brought you closer to yourself but only you could have stepped into that place and it does not belong to others nor can your experience of it be attributed to another person. It is your Presence that you feel, not anyone else’s, no matter how much there is an implied special ownership of Holiness.
You may have also learned that even the mighty can fall to the adoration of others and knowingly or unknowingly succumb to the lure of that love, being blind to the source of power they feed from. It is extremely powerful and hypnotic when someone believes in their own hoax, as if it were real. The love you have felt was not really coming from them, but from the true devotion of sincere disciples and yourself.
Such love and the power that goes with it attracts, not only the sincere seekers, but also the emotionally needy, mentally exhausted, and socially alienated, all of whom are energy parasites. All gain the power and self-esteem from belonging and accepting a set of rules that enable them to maintain their addictive ways through riding on the coat tails of the charismatic figurehead and depleting the energy of the unsuspecting and the innocent.
What then would you expect other than what you saw and experienced? Why would you think that one person could reform so many others without them having to make their own personal effort? Why would you think that there is one rule for them and one for you? Why would you think that someone who knew better would allow it to continue?
BUT YOU DID AND NOW YOU KNOW BETTER.

What have you learned about the methods
When you have secret teachings, when you have methods, systems, techniques, and knowledge that are hidden, unavailable to the masses and are apparently protected by vows of silence then there is something to beware of. The old world of teacher/pupil was one of protection for a very good reason. There were dangers in the over zealous and uninformed use of psychic exercises. Instruction from someone who had move through the experiences was to protect the welfare of the learner. That is of the old world. This age is for freedom of exploration and expression. The dangers of prematurely raising the kundalini power is no longer relevant because this energy is rising in everyone and to keep the knowledge secret is to deprive people of the wisdom of choice.
Charging for services rendered is one thing but requiring secrecy that deprives the teacher of their own growth and self expression is to maintain control over both the teacher and the potential beneficiaries of the method. Self-realization cannot be brought nor can a sincere teacher be expected to deny access to those who can benefit. Each teacher must be free to make the truth decisions that are appropriate for their circumstances and truth knowing. This is the way of authenticity, integrity, and the way of trust.
In fact there are to be no more secrets, no more lies. The truth is coming out. All will be revealed and exposed for what it is. Just look around you. No one can hide for very much longer. The growth of telepathic consciousness that is now happening for everyone shows that secrecy is becoming a thing of the past. Politicians, corporate executives, doctors, lawyers, professional of all kinds are being called to account. Even the ordinary person in the street easily senses hidden agendas though they may not be able to give voice to it yet.
If you know better then sometimes it is your duty to speak up when necessary and at other times to hold your tongue when it serves no purpose.
THERE ARE TO BE NO MORE SECTRETS

So what to do Now?
Certainly to stop kicking yourself. You acted by paying lip service to what you saw as not right. You fooled yourself that there was some higher purpose in it all. You gave your responsibility away by seeing someone else as the authority for truth. You were afraid to rock the boat and now you grieve for the loss of stability and certainty that you once thought you had.
But you will also be angry. Angry at the uncaringness and usary of others for selfless ends. Angry at yourself for not seeing earlier, or more accurately, not having the trust in your own knowing and better judgement to walk away.
If you understand all these things then the next step is forgiveness. To fully move on you need to honestly see the gifts in what you have learned, and be grateful. Then forgive yourself for having forgotten to listen and to trust in yourself. To thank yourself for the choices that gave you these great gifts of knowing firsthand. Consciously take back all the chi (the life force ) you have given away to others, and in so doing you take back the strength of your truth and your knowing.
Forgive all the players in the drama you have just enacted. This does not condone their actions it just means that you are taking back your compassion which understands where the others are coming from. Your full forgiveness of them gives back any chi that you may have knowingly or unknowingly stolen from them. Let the slate be clean. Enough is enough. No more recriminations. The truth will take care of itself.
You are moving on to follow your passion, which is to learn and to share your knowing with others who are crying out to know and to experience, even a glimmer of what it is like to feel peace, to experience that still place within, and to be self empowered.
